All schools and nurseries in the Western Isles will be closed to pupils today and a number of CalMac ferry sailings have also been cancelled and commuters on the trains and roads have been advised to expect disruption.

Weather Network spokesman Richard Chapman said “there is no immediate end in sight to the storms”.
